The cover of Sports Illustrated’s July 1 issue features former “Late Show” host Kevin Hall on the list of the top 30 most powerful people in sports.
Sports Illustrated said that Hall, who was born in Texas and moved to New York City as a young child, will become the first African-American person to be named a Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
Hall, who is a former ESPN host, has become a powerful voice in the sports world since retiring from “Late Night” in 2018.
He has been a fixture on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” and “Inside the NFL,” and his work with the Sports Illustrated “30 Under 30” initiative has won him fans in every country.
He was named Sportsman-of-the-Month in July and “Sportswriter of the Month” in August 2018.
In October, Hall won the “30 under 30” award at the Sportsman Awards for his work in sports journalism and philanthropy.
He also has been named Sports Illustrated Most Influential Sportsman in 2018, which also was shared by Sports Illustrated editor-in-chief Mark Gottlieb.
